How do you provide personalized medicine? How do differentiate between each patient's unique needs? Traditional bloodwork is never enough. Symptoms overlap from one condition to another. We need a deeper way to look at the patient if we are ever going to be able to provide a unique medical solution for each unique individual. The genome offers a way to look at how one patient differs from another. And physicians are looking at ways to leverage this emerging technology to provide patients with answers that are specifically designed just for them. Visit http://wildhealth.com

Perhaps no region of the brain is more fittingly named than the claustrum, taken from the Latin word for "hidden or shut away." The claustrum is an extremely thin sheet of neurons deep within the cortex, yet it reaches out to every other region of the brain. Its true purpose remains "hidden away" as well, with researchers speculating about many functions. What is known is that this region contains a large number of receptors targeted by psychedelic drugs such as LSD or psilocybin ¾ the hallucinogenic chemical found in certain mushrooms. To see what happens in the claustrum when people are on psychedelics, Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers compared the brain scans of people after they took psilocybin with their scans after taking a placebo. PLUS Steve and Violet Brill looks at a forest the same way most people think about a supermarket. Walk through a park or wooded area with them and they can show you a number of wild plants that might make for tasty additions to your dinner plate. They would tell you how yellow wood sorrel tastes just like lemonade or how black birch can be used as a minty flavoring for pudding. With the advent of this pandemic, foraging may be more important than ever. Some are including it in their home-schooling curriculum in hopes of arming their children with this almost-forgotten art. http://wildmanstevebrill.com

Sauna and especially Infrared Sauna have been shown in numerous clinical papers to correct a variety of health issues. Any illness with a pain component gets better when the Infrared Sauna is used. IR Sauna has been shown to improve and speed recovery after a hard workout, improve metabolic status, increase fat loss, improve skin quality, improve mood and sense of wellbeing, improve sleep quality and much more. It has even been shown to create the same metabolic changes experienced when one dos regular cardiovascular exercise from just sitting in an IR Sauna. If this was a supplement or drug everyone would buy it. So why don’t you have an IR Sauna in your home? PLUS I’ve talked about the phenomenon of why successful people seem to do things that ruin their health for years. It like once you reach a certain level of success you start to sabotage yourself. A recent study published in the Journal of the European Society of Cardiology looked at why men with higher incomes also suffered from the highest blood pressures.
Cannabidiol, or CBD, may help reduce the cytokine storm and excessive lung inflammation that is killing many patients with COVID-19, researchers say. While more work, including clinical trials to determine optimal dosage and timing, is needed before CBD becomes part of the treatment for COVID-19, researchers at the Dental College of Georgia and Medical College of Georgia have early evidence it could help patients showing signs of respiratory distress avoid extreme interventions like mechanical ventilation as well as death from acute respiratory distress syndrome. PLUS When a plant-based meat alternative company pays for the science, is it any wonder that the outcome is in their favor?

COVID-19 is not deadly early in life, but mortality increases exponentially with age, which is the strongest predictor of mortality. Mortality is higher in men than in women, because men age faster, and it is especially high in patients with age-related diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension, because these diseases are manifestations of aging and a measure of biological age. At its deepest level, aging (a program-like continuation of developmental growth) is driven by inappropriately high cellular functioning. The hyperfunction theory of quasi-programmed aging explains why COVID-19 vulnerability (lethality) is an age-dependent syndrome, linking it to other age-related diseases. It also explains inflammaging and immunosenescence, hyperinflammation, hyperthrombosis, and cytokine storms, all of which are associated with COVID-19 vulnerability. Anti-aging interventions, such as rapamycin, may slow aging and age-related diseases, potentially decreasing COVID-19 vulnerability. Over 70% of Americans have digestive issues. Many take over-the-counter drugs that actually make the problem worse. Most bloating, gassy gut issues are from the digestive process stalling. Food sits and literally rots and ferments in the stomach. PPI's and antacids make it worse. While you may feel the symptom relief, it actually slows the digestive process more! And contributes to nutrient malabsorption. The answer is not to slow digestion, but to help it along. That's where the right enzymes come in. And here's the best part. Findings from an Oregon State University study into the effects of radiofrequency radiation generated by the wireless technology that will soon be the standard for cell phones suggest few health impacts. Fifth generation or 5G wireless technology, which began being deployed worldwide in 2019, provides faster connectivity and more bandwidth, meaning higher download speeds. But because 5G technology is so new, little is known about the potential health effects from its radiofrequency radiation, which is higher than the current industry standard 4G. The Oregon State study begins to change that. PLUS Perhaps we should start asking for a side of plastic with that fish filet. A study of five different seafoods has found traces of plastic in every sample tested. Researchers bought oysters, prawns, squid, crabs and sardines from a market in Australia and analyzed them using a newly developed method that identifies and measures five different plastic types simultaneously. The study - by the University of Exeter and the University of Queensland - found plastic levels of 0.04 milligrams (mg) per gram of tissue in squid, 0.07mg in prawns, 0.1mg in oysters, 0.3mg in crabs and 2.9mg in sardines.
Not everyone see pain relief from orally administered CBD. But there may be a more effective alternative. Transferal patch delivers the maximum amount locally to the area in pain. And by avoiding systemic delivery many avoid the unwanted effects of feeling tired after a large dose. PLUS There’s a reason lawmakers use the specific word “slow” when they talk about the protective effects of social distancing, mask-wearing, and business shutdowns. Because they know something they don’t want to admit. We can’t stop this virus from running its course. We can only slow the inevitable of it running through our population. Is there a better way to do this? PLUS Researchers realize something we’ve always known in this community. Fasting appears to help women with breast cancer who undergo standards of care treatment.

“Oh you won’t find any Visceral Fat in me I have been Vegan over 25 years”. Is this true? VAT is an indicator of declining health and the potential for disease. Vegan eats what they consider a “clean healthy diet”. Many turn to the vegan diet to ward off heart disease stating it lowers cholesterol. But VAT is a bigger indicator of the potential for metabolic derangement that leads to heart disease. We discuss the effects of a strict vegan diet as compared to a low-carb high-fat diet that includes lots of animal protein. http://medconwellness.com

Since the early days of Physical Culture a diet evolved that produced the most lean muscle with the least body fat accumulation. Some of the best early bodybuilders and trainers in the world used it with amazing success. Vince Gironda, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jack LaLanne, Chet Yorton, on and on. Today this same diet is used by bodybuilders worldwide. And it works just as promoted. Lean, muscular bodies that not only look healthy but are the cornerstone of health. In the book Muscle, Smoke and Mirrors Volume 1, author Randy Roach sets out to show the nutritional origins and contributions of early fathers of Physical Culture to what would become the low-carbohydrate, low-inflammatory diet of today. Diets come and go like fads. I've talked about the metabolically protective effects of maintaining muscle as we age for over a decade. It has even been proven in science now. And I've discussed how the sheer increase in muscle mass and the strength it produces protects our bodies as we age. Muscle really does save lives. While science has ignored this valuable contribution of muscle, there are many glaring examples of it. Here we take a look at an undeniable case. Even the attending physicians couldn't believe that Dan wasn't dead. Never mind the fact that he seemed to be hardly injured when he went through the windshield of his car. Quest Nutrition was born from her desire to make decadently delicious desserts and snacks that fit the macros of people who cared about what they were eating, and, that didn't depend on added sugar. Her cinnamon roll recipe is one of the best examples of her out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to this culinary art form.

Vitamin D is recognized as an important co-factor in several physiological processes linked with bone and calcium metabolism, and also in diverse non-skeletal outcomes, including autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, obesity and cognitive decline, and infections. In particular, the pronounced impact of vitamin D metabolites on the immune system response, and on the development of COVID-19 infection by the novel SARS CoV-2 virus, has been previously described in a few studies worldwide. The collaborative group of scientists from the Leumit Health Services (LHS) and the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine of Bar-Ilan University aimed to determine associations of low plasma 25(OH)D with the risk of COVID-19 infection and hospitalization. Using the real-world data and Israeli cohort of 782 COVID-19 positive patients and 7,025 COVID-19 negative patients, the groups identified that low plasma vitamin D level appears to be an independent risk factor for COVID-19 infection and hospitalization. PLUS The study results revolve around the long-established idea that machines within animal and human cells turn the sugars, fats, and proteins we eat into energy used by the body's millions of cells. The molecule most used to store that energy is called adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. Along with this central role in metabolism, adenosine also helps signal other cells and serves as a building block of genetic material, and so is central to the growth of human tissue. Previous research had shown that maintaining supplies of adenosine, known to nourish the chondrocyte cells that make cartilage, also prevented osteoarthritis in similar animal models of the disease.
Intraarticular injection of liposomal adenosine reduces cartilage damage in established murine and rat models of osteoarthritis https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32778777/

I was introduced to Biltong and Droëwors by SHR listener John Bolger when Alisa and I visited Ireland. I was immediately hooked. But getting these African cured meats in the USA wasn’t a possibility back then. To achieve their flavor first requires traditional seasonings used in Africa. Then they have to be slow cured for 2 weeks by air-drying. The end result is a cured meat that needs no refrigeration, but, unlike beef jerky, is tender and moist. Not like eating a roof shingle, but instead like eating real steak that has been dried to perfection. And also unlike beef jerky, not a single grain of sugar added. If you’re a fan of beef and beef jerky prepare to change your opinion and eating habits. PLUS Sweden did not shut down their country in response to COVID-19. Over the past decade, we’ve discussed the link between the gut and the brain. This is especially true when it comes to cognition and mood. Overgrowth of the wrong microbes lead to morning brain fog, impaired memory, depression, anxiety and more. These links have been identified conclusively through several research papers. The microbes that inhabit your gut eat your food. They also excrete chemicals as an end product of digesting your food. We know that when they overproduce d-lactic acid it leads to impaired cognition, depression and what is generally called brain-fog. . If the wrong bacteria can produce these unwanted effects on the brain, the opposite is true as well. If you have higher populations of “good” microbes they eat your food and produce chemicals that improve brain function, support mood and mental acuity. How do you improve the presence of these beneficial microbes in your gut? Listen and learn.
